Casino del Sol closes for the holidays

December 10, 2020

Casino del Sol in Tucson decided to shut down for the rest of the year due to concerns of the surging COVID-19 pandemic. The closure began at 11AM Dec. 7 and will continue till reopening at 8AM on Jan. 2, 2021.

'Our experience with safety, distancing, and cleaning protocols, has been both positive and effective. Yet we ask ourselves, what can we do as a part of this community to help slow the spread of the virus? The way we can help do that is by closing temporarily.'

Casino Del Sol opens new Estrella hotel

After 18 months of construction the Estrella at Casino Del Sol is now open!

Estrella is the second hotel at Casino Del Sol Resort Spa and Conference Center. It is built on 2.2 acres adjacent to the casino and connected via a covered walkway. The six-story hotel offers 151 guest rooms and 4 suites.

'Almost exactly eight years ago, we opened the resort, spa and conference center at Casino Del Sol and today we are opening our second hotel, Estrella at Casino Del Sol,' said Chairman Robert Valencia of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

'We are grateful for the support of the Southern Arizona community over the years which has allowed us to continue to expand our hospitality offerings with incredible momentum.'

Estrella adds several new features and amenities to Casino Del Sol.

Both Casino Del Sol and Casino of the Sun expand event space

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe has completed construction on more conference and event space at their two casinos in Tucson. This provides an more opportunities to host social and business events at both locations.

Casino Del Sol has added 9,600-square feet to its existing Conference Center increasing its capacity to 3,000 guests. The new space includes a second ballroom and more breakout rooms.

Casino of the Sun has opened an all-new event center next to its casino. This addition is named the Sunset Room and features 11,000 square feet for business and social functions as well as live entertainment. Its capacity is 750 guests.

The combined capacity of these two casino additions is 110,000 square feet providing large pre-function areas, flexible meeting/event space, an extensive catering menu and first-class service.

Estrella at Casino Del Sol reaches Construction Milestone

February 21, 2019

Last July the Casino Del Sol began construction of a new hotel named 'Estrella at Casino Del Sol'. Last Friday the new hotel reached its halfway point in construction as the steel framework was finished.

Construction of the new hotel at Casino Del Sol reached the halfway point Feb. 15 as a crane lifted the final steel beam into place atop the finished steel structure. The beam had been signed by members of the tribe, members of the casino and members of the construction company at a topping off ceremony prior to its placement.

Kimberly Van Amburg, CEO of Casino Del Sol, spoke to the gathering: 'Reaching this significant milestone is something we've been looking forward to, and we wouldn't be in the home stretch without the team's hard work. The signatures on the beam of all who helped make this happen will now be a permanent part of the hotel structure.'

Casino Del Sol breaks ground on 151-room hotel

Casino Del Sol Tucson Bingo Schedule

On July 12 ground was broken on the new expansion project at Casino del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference Center. The Tucson casino is owned by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

The project consists of a new hotel with an additional 151 guest rooms, a larger conference center, and a new 90 space RV Park.

A total cost for the project has not been released.

The hotel will consist of 93,200 square feet. It will have six floors. The design for the building will compliment the design of the casino. The location will be next to the casino building on 2.2 acres.

Plans include space for meetings, a fitness facility, an arcade, and a lounge. Also, a new pool deck, pool friendly to families, a pool slide, and bar. The Sonoran Desert will be the view from every guest room.

The conference room will get another 9,600 square feet.

Meeting the current demands of guests is the reason behind the project. The casino wants to be able to provide them with a better experience. To bring them more amenities that will attract more families and places for RV camping. The expansion of the convention center will also provide for better service for people hosting and attending conventions.

The casino resort has received a AAA Four Diamond rating.

This is the second renovation that the property has undergone. The first renovation added 65,000 square feet for meetings and conventions. The hotel was also added with 215 guest rooms.

This is second casino owned by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The other is Casino of the Sun. It is located 2 miles away.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is expanding hospitality amenities in Tucson at its casino enterprises, Casino Del Sol and Casino of the Sun.

In October, the Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council approved up to 150 additional hotel rooms, 90 RV sites, and a 9,600-square foot expansion of the current convention space at Casino Del Sol. In addition, a new 11,000-square foot Event Center next to Casino of the Sun will be built.

'The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is honored to have the opportunity to build new accommodations and meeting spaces for guests who visit our properties,' said Robert Valencia, Chairman of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. 'These additions will create more jobs and will positively impact our Tribe, its members, and Southern Arizona.'

The new hotel will be located adjacent to the current Casino Del Sol facility and is estimated to have 150 rooms with its own pool area. This will allow visitors to have an additional hotel choice nearby everything Casino Del Sol has to offer.

A proposed 90-space RV park near the casino will also provide part-time and full-time RVers the opportunity to hook up and enjoy all of Casino Del Sol's amenities before they head out on the road.

The current conference center at Casino Del Sol will undergo a 9,600-square foot expansion and will include additional break out meeting rooms to complement the existing convention space.

Casino of the Sun, Casino Del Sol's sister property and original Pascua Yaqui Tribal casino, is also getting a new addition. Construction of a new 11,000-square foot Event Center adjacent to the Casino will allow for meetings, events, and entertainment.

'The overwhelming support we have received since the opening of Casino Del Sol has resulted in our current hotel being at near-full capacity most nights,' said CEO of Casino Del Sol, Kimberly Van Amburg. 'This project will allow us to meet the increased demand of our customers as well as better serve our meeting and convention clientele.'

The architect for the project is the Cuningham Group in Las Vegas.

The project cost has not been disclosed.
